Granby was formed in the 1960's from members of The Granby Youth Club, they had a sucessful 5-A-Side team and ventured onto the big pitch around 1966. They played in the Leicester Sunday League Division 14 about 1966-67 and were promoted that year moving up several divisions to Division six where again they won the league in 1967-68 and were again moved up to Division Two in 1968-69, the team won League and cup games on a regular basis till about 1969-70. They played at Saffron Lane park, (now Aylestone Park) and were sponsored by The Cricketers Arms pub. Here the guys and gals met after the youth club nights in the Snook at the back of the pub, and on Friday nights when they went out for a social night of boozing. |
